Heavy Pets at Sullivan Hall next stop Brooklyn

editors note: this band is kind of just hype.

The Heavy Pets have been touring up and down the east coast in support of their second full length album, a self titled follow up to their 2007 release Whale. The new songs bring back the classic, old school, improvisational rock sound while venturing beyond the jamband stigma. The Heavy Pets high energy and stage charisma attracts a new generation of live music lovers, helping them stand out as an ambassador of improvisational rock to the millennial generation.

The Pets went on late night around 12:00 am, and kicked things off with the bass heavy reggae tune “No More Time,” This was a great way to chill everyone out and ease into the night. The band followed with “Sigsmondi” and “3 am,” an anthemic rock song with touches of ska and reggae, the light show at Sullivan Hall was in full force, and the The Pets’ synchronized vocals were on point.

Zack Deputy at Rockwood

I am a big fan of Rockwood Music Hall, many bands featured in The Deli play there, and it is constantly home to some of the best bluegrass in NYC Zach Deputy has chosen NYC as the home to his CD release, with all the success acoustic music is having with hipsters here he wants in on the action, and he has the chops to make it happen. He has conquered the south but is yet to make big waves up here in the Northeast, This may change with his upcoming release Another Day (Eusonia Records, 2011), Zach Deputy demonstrates his extraordinary ability to perform and record in multiple contexts and conveys the sensibilities of a mature singer/songwriter. Another Day offers another look at Zach Deputy and seeks to help him cross over into other audiences. The record will appeal to fans of contemporary artists like Jack Johnson and Amos Lee, but the origins of the style and feel remain classic.

The Heavy Pets are Breaking Boundaries

If you don’t already know about Florida based jam pop up-and-comers The Heavy Pets, you should. For the past four years they have taken part in the incessant touring and festival routing that is key to any jam band’s success, including regular stops at Bonnaroo, All Good, moe.down, and Langerado. They have even seen the blossoming of their own festival, PetZoo. Now in it’s third year, the festival was held in freehold, NJ with a stellar lineup that included Umelt, The Brew, John Brown’s Body, and Toubab Krewe.

Although being best know for their passionate live performances, the May release of their first self-titled full length studio album exemplifies their potential to cross over into the mainstream. The album beautifully fuses their jam rock roots of blues, jazz, funk, and reggae with pop melodies, danceable backbeats, and poignant lyrics.

The band will be coming through the Northeast this fall and will be here in New York City at Sullivan Hall next Thursday, September 11. They will be joined by roots rock jammers Dangermuffin and some other great openers, so come on out early for a full night of fun. Don’t miss the opportunity to say you saw this band before they blew up.
