Roots Present the Jam, Jill Newman Productions, Rebirth Brass Band BB Kings

I went to this show the other night, all the good people from the "jamband" movement were there doing their thing. I guess the guy who owns BB Kings owns Highline Ballroom as well, so I went to both these shows. The Roots Jam also known as "the 10 dolla bill show" had a huge line... that I got to cut! The people who work there are all really cool, in this unpretentious-pretentious dressed in black, artsy kind of way. everyone has there ear pieces and looks like secret service. We got photo's for Jambase which we had to actually sign a contract that we would only use for them, it was the most red tape I ever had to go through for a concert, but after I saw how huge the line was and how many damn performers on stage I understood. There must have been so many friends and friends of friends smoking funk backstage it was rediculous. The list of performers was at least 20-25 people. It included this crazy ass burlesque group called "Brown Girls Burlesque" very weird and cool. A Santogold wannabe, some crazy jazz pianists and bass players including the bassist for Chapter 2, this awesome soulful gospel player who plays weekly at Union Pool, it was indeed a circus and the vibe was all good, some really good peoples. They played some Jackson 5 covers at the end including my favorite funky bass line of all time "I Want You Back!" they had a horn section and ?uest Love was smiling all stoned through the whole show, there was definitely Sour Diesel and Kush filling the room.
