HeadCount Heads to Hampton!

sorry about that...
Launching at the Spaceship After months of preparation, HeadCount will launch its 2009 campaign at the Phish concerts at Hampton Coliseum next weekend. We will be doing more than just registering voters. This year, we're staging a letter-writing and awareness campaign behind the issues that YOU, the live music community, feel are most important. This began with an online POLL that asks what YOU think are the three most important issues facing America today. When you stop by a HeadCount table at a concert this year, you'll be able to choose from three selected issues (or pick one of your own) and write a letter to your Congressional representative. That's not all - we're also teaming up with other nonprofits to stage local volunteer outings, and we'll work with several bands on their specific cause-related activities. Our goal is to organize the music community into a socially and politically active force. That starts with voting in elections, but doesn't end there. Check for updates about our campaign at www.HeadCount.org and the HeadCount blog at www.HeadCount.org/blog. Or you can stop by our table at the Phish concerts in Hampton, Va. on March 6-8. Digital Media Volunteer/Internship Opportunity Over the next year, HeadCount will be taking its online presence to the next level through the launch of a revamped website and blog and greater utilization of various Web 2.0 platforms. We aim to use technology to build community and are looking for skilled, dedicated individuals to participate in this undertaking. If you have experience in digital media platforms, want to be part of a high-profile creative endeavor, are reliable (no slackers, please) and can devote at least three hours per week, please email resumes@headcount.org. Include a brief note and preferably a resume and/or sample of your work. HeadCount Ranked No. 1 By Independent Report Air Traffic Control , a nonprofit that connects musicians to social action, put together a report summing up the various "music related political events" in 2008. The report found that HeadCount was responsible for 82% of that activity. Next on the list was Rock the Vote, who was responsible for 7%. We knew we were staging the largest event-based voter registration campaign in the U.S. and were glad someone noticed! To read the report, check out the Future Majority blog.
